Frequently Asked Questions: What shoes do we wear? Running shoes or hiking boots are fine for all the hikes. Tevas are fine for the rainforest treks, but not for anything strenuous or mountainous - unless you have strong feet. Your shoes may get muddy or dirty on any of the hikes.
What clothes should we wear? Shorts and short-sleeved shirts are best for most hikes. Haleakala Crater and the Cloud Forest hikes are often cool, so a jacket, down vest, sweatshirt or sweater is recommended.
Do we need to bring anything? A towel, if the hike includes swimming, and sunscreen (if you choose to swim).
Are there mosquitoes? In the rain forests, yes. In Haleakala Crater, the coastal areas and the Cloud Forest, no. We bring mosquito repellent, but bring your own, if you prefer a particular brand.
Should we bring water? No. We provide water, backpacks, rain gear, water shoes, insect repellent and first aid equipment.
What will we get for a snack? Enjoy fresh Hawaiian fruit.
Should we bring a camera and film? Yes. There will be many photo opportunities on this hike.
Will there be a bathroom on the trail? In most cases, no. If you're uncomfortable using the bushes, please let us know when you, and we'll see if the guide can make a bathroom stop before we reach the trailhead.
